Revenue Scotland’s Chief Executive, Elaine Lorimer, has won ‘CEO of the Year’ at the Scottish Women’s Awards 2019 held in Glasgow on 28 August 2019.
Ms Lorimer, who has led the Scottish tax authority for three years, has 20 years of experience working at senior management and board level in the civil service in London and local government in Scotland. She is also a qualified lawyer and public finance accountant and previously served as the Chief Executive of the Law Commission of England and Wales, a statutory body charged with promoting law reform.
On winning the award, Ms Lorimer said: “I am delighted to have won this award which is a testament to the great work by Revenue Scotland staff. It is a privilege to lead Scotland’s tax authority and our organisation’s talent and tenacity will stand us in good stead for the challenges ahead.”
Revenue Scotland Board Chair, Dr Keith Nicholson said: “Elaine has shown exceptional leadership of Revenue Scotland, anchoring the organisation as a public body with a reputation for excellence in service delivery, professional development and capability. The Board and I are delighted that her abilities have been recognised by this prestigious award - it is an accolade that is well deserved.”
NOTES TO EDITORS
- Revenue Scotland was established as a Non-Ministerial Department on 1 January 2015 and is the tax authority responsible for the administration and collection of Scotland’s devolved taxes - Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) and Scottish Landfill Tax (SLfT). These taxes came into effect on 1 April 2015, replacing their UK equivalents (Stamp Duty Land Tax and UK Landfill Tax respectively).
- From 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2018, Revenue Scotland collected and transferred to the Scottish Consolidated Fund a total of £1.8 billion in LBTT and SLfT revenue.
- Revenue Scotland has recently launched an upgrade of its online tax collection system (SETS), introducing a number of functional enhancements and improvements. Delivered on time and on budget, the upgraded SETS will allow Revenue Scotland to better align business practices, processes and guidance to ensure efficient and effective administration of Scotland’s devolved taxes.
