Monthly LBTT Statistics

Up to and including August 2024.

Key points

  • A total of £85.6m LBTT was declared by taxpayers in August 2024, the highest total recorded for the month of August and the third highest total for any month. It was 10% (£9.5m) lower than July 2024, which was the highest monthly figure to date.
  • The high total LBTT was driven by high residential LBTT. Residential LBTT, excluding ADS, in August 2024 is the joint highest recorded for the month of August (£48.8m), and 14% higher than August 2023 (£42.9m). High residential LBTT was in part due to a high number of conveyances (150) in the top tax band (over £750,000 total consideration), which corresponded to £12m of LBTT. There was also a high number of returns (1,700) in the second-highest band (£325,001-£750k), corresponding to £29.2m of LBTT.
  • Non-residential LBTT, excluding ADS, was £14.6m in August 2024, down 26% (£5.0m) from last month, and down 24% (£4.5m) compared to August 2023.
  • £22.3m net Additional Dwelling Supplement was declared due in August 2024. This figure will be gradually revised down in future publications, likely by at least 20%, as taxpayers reclaim ADS after disposing of their additional dwelling.
