Monthly LBTT Statistics
Key points
- Total LBTT declared due in July 2024 was £96.2m. This is the highest monthly figure to date and was driven mainly by a record high of £52.1m in residential LBTT, excluding ADS, declared due. The previous high for residential LBTT, excluding ADS, was £50.2m in October 2022.
- This new high in residential LBTT, excluding ADS, was in part due to a record high number of conveyances (150) in the top tax band (over £750,000 total consideration). This corresponded to £14.7m of LBTT. There was also a very high number of returns (1,760) in the second-highest band (£325,001 - £750k), corresponding to £29.5m in LBTT.
- Non-residential LBTT, excluding ADS, was £19.6m in July 2024. This is up £5.1m compared to last month and is £4.1m higher than July 2023.
- The previous high for total LBTT declared due (£87.7m) was in December 2021. The standout figure from that month was the very high non-residential LBTT, excluding ADS, of £34.8m. In contrast, the standout figure this month was residential LBTT, excluding ADS (£52.1m).
- £24.6m net Additional Dwelling Supplement was declared due in July 2024. This was also a new high, though the figure will be gradually revised down in future publications, likely by at least 20%, as taxpayers reclaim ADS after disposing of their additional dwelling.
